The project.
Five Acre Wood school supports and educates pupils with a wide range of special educational needs. A huge fundraising drive by the School and its fundraising arm, the Friends of Five Acre Wood School, enabled them to raise the money needed to construct a specialist new pool, replacing the former one which was over 20 years old.
The new pool will enable those pupils with physical disabilities to experience movement in water, within a warm and safe environment. The pool will be available not only to the school, but the local community too. As well as the pool, wet and dry changing bays, shower bays and toilets are provided, some of which are designed to be for accessible use. The new building will also host a sunken trampoline for rebound therapy.
Demolition of existing buildings on the School grounds had to be undertaken to create space for this new facility. The team delivered the project around a live school environment and some refurbishment work was undertaken to the existing building the new pool connects into.
