The project.
Setting the Scene
Set adjacent of the historic Westgate Towers, Westgate One reimagines a prominent stretch of Pound Lane and St Peter’s Street. What was once a Barrett’s Land Rover showroom, has now been transformed into student accommodation, which has produced more than 150 high-specification studio apartments across four distinct blocks, each designed to complement the surrounding conservation area while offering a contemporary standard of city-centre living. New ground-floor ancillary space along Pound Lane has further animated the street frontage, adding to the vibrancy of this historic quarter.
Our team worked hand-in-hand with the developer and appointed contractor from the project’s earliest stages, steering the design and budget through a rigorous journey from RIBA Stage 2 concept through to RIBA Stage 4 technical design, laying the groundwork for a scheme that balances heritage sensitivity with modern development ambition.
Project Completion
Delivery progressed in carefully sequenced phases. Phase One brought the existing building back to life, with beautifully renovated apartments across the first and second floors completed in June 2021. Momentum continued through 2022, as the first of the new-build blocks reached completion that August and September, a milestone marked by the opening of a bespoke marketing suite, giving prospective occupiers the chance to step inside and experience the quality of the new-build accommodation for themselves ahead of moving in.
