Last week, b&m spent the day at the Careers Fair hosted by Leigh Academy Ebbsfleet, meeting students from across all year groups and talking about careers in the built environment.
Attending on behalf of b&m were Peter Thorpe (Associate), Dom Mulford (Senior Quantity Surveyor) and Sienna Roger (Assistant Surveyor). The team spent the day answering questions, sharing real career experiences and explaining the different routes into roles such as Quantity Surveying and project-based consultancy.
Careers Fair Bingo
To encourage students to get involved and speak to as many exhibitors as possible, the academy ran a Careers Fair Bingo activity. Students were given Bingo cards with prompts such as finding a job that requires a degree or learning about a profession involved in delivering real buildings and places.
Students asked questions, got cards signed once they’d found the answers, and completed cards were entered into a prize draw. It was a simple idea that worked really well and led to some great conversations throughout the day.

Recognising Student Engagement
During the fair, our team was also asked to highlight students who stood out for their enthusiasm and engagement. We met many students who were confident, curious and genuinely interested in learning more about future career options, which was great to see.
A big thank you to the academy for creating such a positive environment and encouraging students to take part and make the most of the day.
Why Early Engagement Matters to Us
Early engagement with schools and colleges is something we strongly believe in at b&m. Giving young people an insight into construction and the built environment helps them understand the wide range of roles available and shows that there are multiple pathways into the industry.
This links directly to our values around people, growth, collaboration and expertise, as well as our commitment as a B Corp to delivering positive social impact. Supporting education and future skills is an important part of how we work as a responsible business.
Supporting the Ebbsfleet Area
Our visit also reflects our wider involvement in the local area and our work connected to Ebbsfleet Development Corporation. As Ebbsfleet continues to develop, we believe it’s important that local students can see the opportunities available to them and feel inspired to be part of shaping their communities in the future.
Thank you again to Leigh Academy Ebbsfleet for having us. We really enjoyed meeting the students and look forward to continuing our work with schools and young people through our early engagement programme.
