The project.
The Fifth Trust are a charity located in Kent that supports adults with learning disabilities. They offer a wide choice of activities to their students to help them live productive and fulfilled lives, enabling them to reach their potential. In order to achieve these goals, the Fifth Trust need to provide a safe and modern environment for students and their former facilities at Barham were out of date. The inadequate spaces were inaccessible by wheelchair and the buildings were expensive to run and maintain.
The charity fundraised the money to deliver three new buildings that would not only transform their facilities, but enable them to take on more students, supporting up to 180 each week.
The two smaller buildings are the Art Studio and Lucy’s Media Suite, named in memory of one of their students. These bright and airy spaces offer a range of activities including art, print, media and crafting. The Bradbury building, the third and largest of the new spaces, acts as a central hub and offers an exhibition space as well a canteen and personal care facilities. The Trust’s horticultural team are also benefitting from the new spaces as they can now house their propagation units and grow stock for the Vineyard Garden Centre.
Now delivered, the skills centre provides a healthier environment for students and staff, better support and greater income for the Trust which enhances the Charity’s long-term viability.
