Monday 18 January is often referred to as Blue Monday; a day many people associate with low mood, tiredness, and the pressures that can build at this time of year. While mental health doesn’t follow a calendar, moments like this can be a helpful reminder to pause and check in with one another. At b&m, that’s why we’re marking Pink Tuesday.

Pink Tuesday is about connection, kindness, and conversation. It’s not about fixing anything or forcing discussion. It’s simply about creating space and showing that support is always there.

People First – always

People First is at the heart of who we are at b&m. It shapes how we work together, how we support one another, and how we create a positive, inclusive place to work. To mark Pink Tuesday, staff are encouraged to come into work wearing at least a little pink 💗 – whether that’s a jumper, shirt, scarf, socks, or just a subtle splash of colour. It’s a visible sign of support and a gentle way to start conversations.

Tea + Talk

On Monday, our Wellbeing Lead, Emma-Jane, hosted a Tea & Talk, a relaxed, informal opportunity for staff to step away from their desks; have a cup of tea, and spend time together. There’s no agenda and no expectation to share anything personal. Staff are welcome to talk, listen, or simply enjoy the company. Sometimes, that’s exactly what’s needed.

“Pink Tuesday is about creating space to pause and connect. Even small moments of conversation can make a big difference.” — Emma-Jane, Wellbeing Lead

Supporting CALM

Our Charity of the Year is CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably), a charity dedicated to preventing suicide and supporting people who are struggling with life.

Pink Tuesday closely aligns with CALM’s mission and reflects our ongoing commitment to keeping mental health conversations open, compassionate, and real. Find out more about CALM here: https://www.thecalmzone.net/

Support beyond one day

Pink Tuesday is one moment in the year, but wellbeing at b&m is ongoing. Staff have access to:

  • a confidential Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)
  • Vitality wellbeing benefits
  • a culture that encourages openness, flexibility, and looking out for one another

We know everyone’s experience is different, and support won’t look the same for everyone. What matters is that staff know they’re not alone.
