As we celebrate Earth Day as a global call to action for our planet’s health, we at b&m are proud to share our 2025 Carbon Reduction Plan. A comprehensive roadmap that delves into how we are actively reducing our environmental impact while helping to shape a more sustainable future, we are excited to share this key document that we feel highlights the very best of our values.
More than just a strategy, our 2025 Carbon Reduction Plan is a reflection of who we are and what we stand for. As a proud certified B Corp, sustainability is something that is deeply woven into our operations and individual values. Our Reduction Plan outlines the steps we are taking to reduce emissions across a range of areas, from our own offices and vehicles, to our supply chains and how we operate within a project, and all of this is with clear goals in mind: to reach net zero by 2025 and to halve our emissions by 2030.
We are proud of our sustainable journey so far, which has involved meaningful action that all staff members have been part of. We’ve transitioned to 100% renewable electricity, optimised our heating and lighting systems, and reduced business travel emissions through the adoption of virtual technologies and electric vehicles. We’re committed to making both large and small changes that have a cumulative impact, and this includes doing so before regulations require it.
Our 2025 Carbon Reduction Plan also details our carbon footprint assessment, highlighting our current emissions data. Comparing this data to our baseline set in 2020, this level of transparency is key to helping us remain accountable and help us target where we can make our biggest differences. By openly sharing this information, our successes, and the areas we still have work to do, we’re holding ourselves accountable not just to targets, but to the people and communities we serve.
We’ve also shared some of our ‘Good News Stories’, detailing the actions we have done, what we are doing, and what we are going to do to in terms of a range of themes, such as energy efficiency, waste reduction, and empowering people and culture. For example, 100% of our waste now goes to non-landfill, we are currently beginning composting in our garden, and we hope to work with our partners to promote the feasibility of reusing construction materials and reducing construction waste.
Publishing this plan on Earth Day is a deliberate choice, and one that serves as a reminder that our industry has a role to play in climate leadership. We believe that the work we have completed and the projects we continue to contribute to prove our dedication to our sustainable focus, including embedding low-carbon thinking into project delivery, our advocacy for sustainable construction methods, and our collaboration to decarbonise supply chains.
Being a B Corp means we hold ourselves to the highest standards of social and environmental performance, with the values that helped us earn this certification being the same ones driving our 2025 Carbon Reduction Plan forward. We don’t see sustainability as a separate goal, but an integral part of how we do business and create long-term value for our clients, the communities we work in, and, importantly, our planet.
We are excited to share our 2025 Carbon Reduction Plan with you, and we hope it inspires both transparency and further sustainable action across the industry.
