This B Corp Month, we’ve been reflecting on the work we do at b&m to improve the well-being of both our staff and the communities we work in. It was an honour, therefore, to see that we’ve been featured in the Building Good Employer Guide 2025 as one of their 45 top companies, an accolade that highlights our commitment to creating a workplace where people thrive and careers blossom.
This recognition not only comes at such a significant time, but confirms to us that the work we’re doing, from the small in-office changes to the larger, more impactful shifts in the way we work, are in fact making a difference, and for the better.
We’re thrilled to have been given this achievement during a month that celebrates businesses that meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency, and encourages us even more to continue making b&m a happy and engaging place to work.
Our focus on staff well-being
Our inclusion in this prestigious guide is evidence to us that our ongoing efforts to put our people first, which is, in fact, one of our own core values, has been recognised on a large scale. One of our initiatives highlighted in the Building Good Employer Guide 2025 is our flexible working policy, which includes an early finish at 2pm on Fridays.
This simple but highly valued change allows our team to enjoy a better work-life balance, something that encourages not only a better work ethic, but a happier, more fulfilled team that doesn’t feel burned out. As the guide noted, hybrid working remains a key focus across the construction industry, and we hope to continue paving the way for practical, employee-friendly approaches to flexibility.

Beyond flexible working, we continuously invest in our people through training, development, and well-being initiatives. The guide emphasised the increasing importance of structured training programmes and professional mentorship, and we’re proud to be part of this industry-wide benefit, having 17% of our team made up of those on Apprenticeship Schemes.
We believe that fostering continuous learning and ensuring our team members are supported in their professional growth will equip the next generation of construction workers with the skills they need to excel, as well as helping to close the skills shortage within the industry.
Our B Corp commitment
As anyone who has worked with us will know, our B Corp certification is especially important to us, and something that we see as more than just a title, but a promise to uphold values that benefit our employees, communities, and the planet. Being a B Corp means that every decision we make is rooted in ethical business practices, sustainability, and social responsibility.
The Building Good Employer Guide 2025 also highlighted the growing emphasis on Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) policies across the sector, which is a cause that deeply aligns with both our core values and our B Corp commitment. At b&m, we are committed to creating an inclusive workplace where diversity is celebrated and equal opportunities are available and encouraged to all staff, no matter what.
During B Corp Month, we have reflected on and reaffirmed our commitment to building a better future, and one where businesses can be a force for good. From reducing our environmental impact to championing diversity and inclusion, our approach aligns with an industry-wide movement of companies striving to do better for the planet and the people who live on it.
Continuing our journey
We are incredibly proud to be included in the Building Good Employer Guide 2025’s list of 45 companies doing their bit to “change the narrative about a construction industry which desperately needs to attract a new generation of talent”. However, we see this as just the start of our journey to helping shift the way the industry is perceived.
From championing our female staff, bringing more apprentices on board, and hiring based on passion and creativity rather than solely paper qualifications, we wish to become a role model to other companies like us to make a sector-wide change and encourage a new generation of highly skilled creatives to join the industry.
We are dedicated to continuing to explore new ways to support our employees, drive positive change, and set a standard for responsible business practices, and we look forward to seeing the other 44 companies in this list continue to thrive over the next year and beyond.
