We love to see our clients happy, and their plans become a reality. The delivery of those plans at Sheppey School have occurred in double-quick time. For the start of the new academic year, EKC opened their doors to students and staff with improved facilities, bringing everyone involved in the project great satisfaction.
It feels like yesterday that we were approached by EKC at the early stages of the project to firstly establish what works were required by procuring surveys and design services to see what was feasible in the short timeframe available. We love a challenge and enjoy working closely with EKC to help secure DfE funding and plotting a strategy to deliver the changes required at the school to improve student learning.
b&m carried out Employer’s Agent, Quantity Surveyor and CDM-Principal Designer roles on the project with an overarching management of procurement and the programme. Initially, the fabric and MEP condition improvement works were established through survey work and the possible room reconfigurations were explored to deliver more effective teaching environments. The design, procurement and delivery of these works in a short space of months meant a two-stage D&B route was selected and a tight programme was drafted. Delivery of the programme came with the added challenge of the school being occupied for much of the time.
Overcoming the challenges and the successful delivery of outcomes have been achieved through excellent collaboration by all involved. An open and honest approach has provided the flexibility and practicality needed. With the works occurring across 3 buildings being undertaken, whilst the school has been operational, b&m have had to work closely with EKC, the DfE, the previous school operator and Redec (main contractor), ensuring the health and safety of all those involved whilst still maintaining programme.
It was a pleasure to help coordinate the expertise of all those involved, and we shall enjoy celebrating in EKC’s continued success… and we look forward to the next one!
