Newtown Works (NTW) is widely considered to be one of Kent’s most valuable regeneration projects. The project is set to create a £250m film studio development on the historic site of Ashford’s former 12.6 acre Victorian railway works making this an incredible landmark project. This will provide a new hub for those involved in the TV/film production with an array of other multifunctional purposes totalling in nearly 1m sq.ft of restored listed buildings. With planning now approved, the launch target is set for 2025.
b&m is incredibly proud to say that we’re involved in this impressive development.
The scheme promises to provide:
• A premium 200,00 sq.ft film studio complex
• Business spaces in the Grade II former engine sheds
• An exquisite 120-room hotel
• 62 serviced apartments
• Restaurants and stores
• 302 one- and two-bedroom apartments over 5 floors of the Grade II Listed former locomotive sheds
• A media village for the purpose of facilitating the growth sector for Kent’s students
• Lastly, a multistorey car park to facilitate all those visiting.
Once complete, Ashford should be considered a significant new member in the streaming revolution. The scheme has already attracted a few well-known names within the industry such as The Creative District Improvement co and Time + Space studios.
The location of Newtown Works plays an important role, with Kent having significant TV and film background accounting for just less than 50% of location filming within the South East . Considering this background, Ashford’s direct links to London and Europe facilitate the possibility of attracting film production throughout Europe. This will also create new and creative job opportunities within the area.
We’re incredibly proud of our team for the hard work and time they’ve dedicated to make this possible. We look forward to seeing Newtown Works progress whilst working alongside lead developer, Quinn Estates https://www.quinn-estates.com/
