We were named one of the best SME businesses in the country last week as we won at the 2020/21 National SME Awards, held at Wembley Stadium on 28th July.

The National SME Awards seek to highlight the achievements and raise the profiles of the smaller businesses in the UK and covers 18 categories from Business Innovation to Community Business of the Year.

B&M were awarded a Silver Award in the Employer of the Year category. The judges were looking for business who support, develop and look after their staff. Our entry focused on our approach to making our people our USP. As an Investors in People Accredited company, we’re focused on being an Employer of Choice and developing an Employee Value Proposition that focuses around training and upskilling staff.

We seek out people with potential, passion for numbers and the built environment and support them with education and mentoring. This method has proven fruitful over the 35 years the business has been running, with many of our current staff having gone through this process.

The judges noted our approach to education and investment and how this enables us to generate a cohesive and collaborative team attitude, with staff working together on projects and supporting each other. This aligns with our core values of collaboration, integrity and people first.

Steph Harris, Practice Manager said “Being awarded this accolade is a testament to the processes and practices the business has put in place to develop and retain young construction talent. We’re thrilled to be named as one of the best SME employers in the country and our aim is to continue to make B&M a great place to work.”

This win comes just after we were named as one of the top Quantity Surveying practices in the country this month at the National Building and Construction Awards.
