Nurse caring for elderly lady

The refurbishment of Gavin Astor House has begun on site, with B&M providing Quantity Surveying, Project Management/Employer’s Agent and Clerk of Works services throughout.

Gavin Astor House is a 50 bed care facility located on the Royal British Legion Industries campus in Aylesford. The home has provided permanent, holiday and respite care in a supported yet independent way for the elderly since its opening in 1993. The home also provides specialist support including dementia, high dependency and end of life care.

The refurbishment will see complete strip and refit of all 50 bedrooms and facilities across several phases. The end result will see Gavin Astor House modernised and reflect the style and feel of the adjacent Appleton Lodge, completed and opened in 2019. Appleton Lodge offers a friendly and homely feel with warm colours and bringing this into Gavin Astor House will bring familiarity and continuity to residents who move between the two buildings.

As part of the first phase, the reception and café are being redeveloped to provide a welcoming and focused entrance to the property.

Refurbished rooms on the lower floor will be design to full dementia capability and décor while the upper floor will cater towards high end nursing and end of life care. All corridors and room entrances on the ground floor will also be upgraded to enable dementia friendly recognition and access.

Upgraded facilities for residents will be provided including a hairdressers, café and a former roof terrace will be refurbished into a wintergarden.

Gavin Astor House will remain operational throughout the refurbishment, therefore construction phases have been carefully planned so that care required for residents remaining in situ can continue as usual.

The project is due to be completed in Autumn 2021 we’re thrilled to be once again working with Royal British Legion Industries to deliver fantastic and much needed facilities.
