The Giles Lane Investment continues its development as work begins on site on the Giles Lane Franciscan site, located adjacent to the University of Kent. Cynergy Bank has provided a £15.1m senior debt facility to Student Lux Limited to fund the project. This purpose built student accommodation scheme on a brownfield site will deliver 180 student rooms and redevelop an underutilised site.

This development follows on from the merger of the University of Kent with the University of Greenwich, announced on 1st August 2026, creating the London and South East University Group, also known as LASE. This is described as the UK’s first regional university group of its kind, helping to develop Kent and Medway’s region and equip students with a diverse skillset.

This is a phase that sparks the beginning of wider investment in Canterbury, with profits from the scheme earmarked to support future development activity.

Current visuals include the foundations of the buildings being laid and refurbishments starting on the existing Franciscan Study Centre.

We look forward to seeing this scheme develop, as it continues from inception through to completion.
