Concrete bowls formed.

The first floor bowls are now being formed at the Urban Sports Park, in Folkestone.

Formed by installing temporary formers made from cordek, reinforcement will be laid into the shapes. Concrete will be sprayed to form the permanent structure. Over 2m deep, the two bowls form the centre piece of the initial skateboarding zone. An additional two floors are to follow.

Unique project.

The Urban Sports Park will provide the local community, and those from further afield, the chance to participate in many different sports. This includes skating, boxing, climbing and bouldering. Each floor will be distinctive and offer a unique experience for visitors. The centre will offer nearly 600sqm of climbable spaces. The ground floor will host a competition sized boxing ring.

The Urban Sports Park will be managed by Shepway Sports Trust. The trust are a Folkestone-based independent charity established to encourage participation and excellence in sport.

The scheme has been designed by the award winning Guy Hollaway Architects and will be delivered using various construction techniques. This includes timber and concrete surfaces for the skate floors. Combining the need for durability and flexibility to modify, the scheme responds to skating trends worldwide.
