As we celebrate the end of B Corp Month this year, we are reflecting on what it truly means to be a purpose-driven company and how we can continue to drive positive change within the construction industry. As proud members of the B Corp movement, we are constantly looking for new areas where we can prove our commitment to prioritising people, communities, and sustainability in every decision we make.

A part of ‘Generation B’

The theme of this year’s B Corp Month is ‘Gen B’, a movement where businesses are encouraged to redefine success by focusing on long-term impacts rather than short term gains. Celebrating nearly 10,000 certified B Corporations dedicated to using business as a force for good, this campaign highlights businesses committed to balancing profit and purpose.

As part of this Generation, b&m is dedicated to building a better future where companies measure success not only by financial performance, but by the positive outcomes they create for society and the environment. A shift towards ethical and sustainable business practices is essential, and we’re committed to leading by example within the industry.

We have been attending conversations alongside other companies within the Built Environment as part of the ‘Gathering B Corps’ initiative. These industry conversations are not only an excellent place to celebrate ours and others achievements as B Corps, but are crucial given that communication and collaboration can, in fact, drive systemic change. By strengthening our relationships across the sector, powered by our joint commitment to B Corp values, we can hope to see a shift towards a more impactful industry that collectively raises industry standards.

We are part of an initiative “Gathering B Corps”; a series of conversations to explore how built environment B Corps can collectively make positive impact within our industry – along with companies, such as Stride Treglown, FulkerBaileyRussell and ElliottWood, we are coming together in action.

Proud to lead by example

Our commitment to being a part of Gen B is reflected in the projects we undertake and how we navigate throughout their completion. For example, at Knoll House, Brighton, we are providing Employers Agents, Cost Consultancy, and CDM Principal Designer services for a new supported housing scheme designed for residents with complex needs. A key contractual requirement for this project, even prior to the recent implementation of the Procurement Act 2023, is for the project team to deliver measurable social value – something that perfectly aligns with our values.

This includes the contractor using local suppliers, as well as the wider team offering apprenticeships and training within the project, and enhancing community spaces such as a nearby community garden. By embedding these values into our work, we can ensure the impact of this project extends beyond bricks and mortar, but actively benefits the people who live and work in the area.

As the only B Corp Certified construction consultancy in Kent, we take this responsibility for ensuring social value incredibly seriously. Our commitment to social impact is evident in the ways we engage with the local community, for example creating employment opportunities and collaborating with local educational institutions, as well as our use of the LM3 calculator, which allows us to measure the economic impact of all of our projects, demonstrating that we are reinvested into the local economy.

Always room for more

Our &More campaign is the embodiment of our commitment to upholding our B Corp values, reflecting our dedication to people, partnerships, and progress. Our Core Values are deeply aligned with everything B Corp stands for, from our People First approach that prioritises clients, staff, and the communities we work in, to our Expertise, which sees us bring extensive knowledge and experience to every project.

These Core Values also include Collaboration, where we believe in working together transparently to build better outcomes for everyone, and Partnership, which reflects the way we support our clients and stakeholders at every stage. Arguably the most poignant Core Value of ours this month is Growth, where we dedicate ourselves to continuous learning, improvement, and innovation, always striving to discover better ways to create impact.

Reflecting on B Corp Month 2025

As we continue our journey as a B Corp, we aim to inspire our industry peers to join the movement for better business. The construction industry has a significant role to play in shaping a sustainable future, and we believe that by setting an example and collaborating with other professionals, we can begin to see a positive shift.

By embracing the principles of Gen B, b&m is committed to driving meaningful change, not just within our own company but across the entire industry. We look forward to embracing another year as a B Corp, and sharing our successes with you as we go.
