Margate Digital represents a transformative regeneration project, breathing new life into the heart of Margate High Street. Empty for some time now, the former department store will be revitalised into a cutting-edge educational facility.
b&m, as part of the project team is providing PM, QS, EA and PD services on this ambitious redevelopment, which is supported by Levelling Up Funding and led by East Kent Colleges Group in partnership with Thanet District Council.
A significant step in Margate’s ongoing cultural and economic rejuvenation, this groundbreaking educational facility has been tailored to meet the demands of the modern digital economy. Its cutting-edge facilities provide specialist, industry-focused environments that are designed to prepare students developing careers in a variety of sectors including media, digital production, coding, and user experience design.
The facility itself offers a variety of spaces tailored to the needs of modern digital industries.
These include:
- An interactive, open-plan media space for collaborative work, fostering creativity and innovation.
- Workshop-style visual media rooms equipped with the latest technology, providing students hands-on experience in film and media production.
- A fully integrated photography and film studio with advanced lighting, motion capture, and video production capabilities.
- Production rooms for editing, post-production, and content creation, supporting students from start to finish in media projects.
- Digital suites for coding and user experience design, offering industry-level tools to master essential technical skills.
- Café and office spaces, creating a professional, collaborative atmosphere for students, faculty, and visiting industry professionals.
Additionally, the space includes an entrance dedicated to the Group’s apprenticeship, adult and community learning arm, EKC Training. This area will offer a wide range of courses to enhance skills development within the local community. This blend of creative and vocational training is available to both younger and older students, ensuring that the facility supports lifelong learning.
The project brings together leading construction and design professionals, including Jenner, LEP, Fairhurst and Hawden. These partnerships ensure the facility is built to the highest standards, supporting sustainability and future growth.
EKC Group’s students will benefit from state-of-the-art equipment, flexible learning spaces, and industry-focused training, preparing them for the modern workforce. This regeneration project will be offered through EKC Broadstairs College, positioning the wider Group as a leader in education and a key player in Margate’s ongoing transformation, offering students real-world experience and direct engagement with industry professionals, enabling them to thrive in a competitive, digital world.
