2023 Achievements
The year 2023 saw us achieving remarkable milestones. From successfully completing high-profile projects to expanding their service offerings, the firm showcased its adaptability and resilience in the face of industry challenges.
We took on over 100 new commissions during the year. Our Education portfolio stays strong at 22%, along with our work in the Community and Health sectors at 16%. The growth of our Commercial portfolio rose to 20%, whereas new commissions on Residential schemes rose to 42%.
B Corp Certification
Achieving B Corp certification underscores our commitment to transparency and accountability. The practice’s willingly opens its operations to scrutiny, inviting stakeholders to assess its social and environmental impact. This commitment to openness extends to financial practices, supply chain management, and overall corporate governance.
We view our B Corp certification as not just an accomplishment but a stepping stone to greater responsibility and positive impact. We remain committed to continuously improving our practices, engaging with stakeholders, and using our influence to contribute meaningfully to the well-being of people and the planet. Our 2024 Impact Report will be issued in April.
Our Community
Our commitment to our community, at its core, embodies the spirit of compassion, altruism, and a collective effort to make a positive impact on the lives of others. Whether through financial contributions, volunteer work, or community engagement, we know that we play a pivotal role in our local community.
Last year our staff contributed almost 800 hours of paid time in community engagement, volunteering or social enterprises. We believe in making b&m a Great Place to Work; and our commitment to community and staff alike sits at the heart of our business.

Mentoring and Early Engagement
Supporting and aspiring the next generation plays a pivotal role in connecting aspiring individuals with opportunities for growth, learning, and career development. At b&m we truly believe it is our role to encourage and inspire the next generation of construction professionals. Last year our staff committed over 1200 hours of paid mentoring, education and career engagement. This included employing new apprentices, developing our mentoring programme and attending career fairs.
2024 will be no different! We have already signed up to numerous career events, and are looking for new apprentice staff.
Focus on Sustainability
The construction industry is undergoing a paradigm shift towards sustainability, and at b&m we recognise the importance this plays. Along with our commitment to B Corp. sustainability is at the forefront of our minds. In 2024, the firm plans to further intensify its commitment to environmentally responsible practices, and aims to contribute significantly to the industry’s transition towards a greener future. We are key panellists at the forthcoming Kent & Medway Business Summit, discussing the sustainability hot topic; and plan to attend Footprint+, the world’s most advanced international conference for the decarbonisation of the built environment.
Expanding Service Offerings
Growth is a key element in our strategy for 2024. The firm is exploring opportunities to expand its service offerings to cater to the evolving needs of the construction industry. We opened our Brighton office during 2023; locality is a key factor in effective collaboration, and the new Brighton office is designed to facilitate even closer engagement with clients in East Sussex, West Sussex and Surrey. We recognise the importance of understanding the unique requirements of each project and aim to build strong relationships with local clients by being readily accessible, responsive, and attuned to the specific needs of the South East construction community.
