It’s National Apprenticeship Week!
As of yesterday, celebrations began to commemorate the 16th Annual week dedicated to Apprentices across the country. This years theme is “Skills for Life” – reflecting on “how apprenticeships can help individuals to develop the skills and knowledge required for a rewarding career and help businesses to develop a talented workforce that is equipped with skills for the future”.
As we’ve mentioned before – here at b&m have our very own dedicated apprentices, Lauren and George.
Both are currently undertaking a Level 6 BSc in Quantity Surveying through b&m whilst working with us 4 days a week. They attend university once a week and this completes their work week. Half way through their apprenticeships they were granted the option to apply for their Chartered Surveyor status. This will be determined by their “End Point Assessment” which will grant them a highly valued MRICS credential.
We’re incredibly proud of the hard work and effort that they put in to make this achievable.
You can find out more about each of their journeys here: Lauren and George
At b&m we strongly encourage Apprenticeships as a credible route into Construction. Other than being relatively beneficial for employers, it’s fundamentally beneficial for Apprentices themselves. Lauren and George have the opportunity to acquire their education whilst receiving hands on experience here with us – which is absolutely vital to succeed in an industry like ours. Many studies have shown that in our current economic climate, isolated education – without experience, sometimes doesn’t allow for easy access into industry work fields. Education is one thing, but the ability to apply theory to real life examples allows individuals to become an asset to any work place.
A few words from George:
“Its great to have the ability of obtaining practical knowledge within a professional workplace, which can be applied to my academic studies”
Apprenticeships are few and far between making it a competitive journey to enter. We encourage those interested to do their research ahead of time. If anybody is interested in finding about more about careers at b&m, please do not hesitate to contact us.
