After construction began last October, the children and staff of Platt C of E Primary School have been patiently waiting for their new school to take shape.
Their patience has finally been rewarded as the new wall panels for the school, prefabricated off site by Streif and managed on site by Baxall, have been delivered to site and installed over the last two weeks.
Some of the pupils were able to visit the site the watch the crane lift the first piece into position. During Phase 1 of the install, 31 wall panels, 25 roof cassettes and 6 large glulam beams were installed in just 8 days.
In the next few weeks, the remaining half of the school will be constructed. After this, the exterior cladding will be installed and roof structure will be completed. 1st fixings will then start on site, along with some of the exterior playground works taking shape.
Once complete, the new school will feature vaulted ceilings and has been designed to make the most of the natural light. The School will also benefit from a full catering kitchen, sports hall and dedicated design and technology room.
The new school is scheduled to be open for the start of the academic year 2021.
B&M are providing Quantity Surveying Services on the scheme on behalf of Kent County Council.
